Endangered Species Chocolate announces partnership finalists

INDIANAPOLIS – Each year Endangered Species Chocolate (ESC) donates a minimum of 10% of net profits to partner organizations involved in the conservation of species, habitat and humanity. For 2007, many worthwhile organizations applied, making the decision very difficult. The applications have been narrowed down to four finalists, and ESC will announce the two winners no later than the end of November. The 2007 finalists include:

  • American Bird Conservancy’s mission is to conserve wild birds and their habitats throughout the Americas. (www.abcbirds.org)
  • Chimp Haven provides lifetime care for chimpanzees no longer used for medical research, as pets or entertainers. (www.chimphaven.org)
  • Friends of Calakmul is dedicated to the conservation of jaguars and their habitat, primarily focused on the Buffer Zone surrounding the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve in southern Mexico. (www.calakmul.org)
  • The Ocean Conservancy promotes healthy and diverse ocean ecosystems and opposes practices that threaten ocean life and human life. (www.oceanconservancy.org)

“2006 has been a successful year at Endangered Species Chocolate,” says Jae Park, director of marketing. “Naturally, we are excited about the new products and growth that will enable us to increase our support of these organizations.”

In 2006, ESC had three partners, contributing more than 10% of net profits to organizations selected because of their aggressive and clear mission to help the planet, animals, habitat and/or humanity.

  • Chimp Haven provides lifetime care for chimpanzees no longer used for medical research, as pets or entertainers. (www.chimphaven.org)
  • The National Wildlife Federation is the nation’s largest member-supported conservation group, uniting individuals, organizations, businesses and government to protect wildlife, wild places, and the environment. (www.nwf.org)
  • A Co-op in the Ikom region of Nigeria is the source of ESC’s ethically traded cacao and a 2006 recipient of vital village improvements from the company.
