Endangered Species Chocolate Calls for “10 Percent Give Back” Applications

INDIANAPOLIS – It's more than just delicious chocolate at Endangered Species Chocolate (ESC). With its 10 Percent Give Back, ESC is committed to enriching the lives of at-risk species and preserving their habitats.
 
Applications for the 2010-12 partner give back are currently available at www.chocolatebar.com/giveback <http://www.chocolatebar.com/giving.asp> and are being accepted through September 11th, 2009. To honor the company’s core value of conservation, applications and supplemental materials should be submitted electronically using the email address provided on the application. New partners will be announced by November 6th, 2009.

The mission-minded chocolate company has a rigorous process in which 10 Percent Give Back partners are selected based on their aggressive and clear mission to help support species, habitat and humanity. All applicants must be designated tax exempt under the IRS code 501(c)(3).  
 
ESC uses ethically traded, shade-grown all-natural and organic chocolate as a medium to spread environmental awareness and help support the growing number of species disappearing from the planet. 10 percent of net profits or $10,000, whichever is greater, is donated each year to two organization that help support species, habitat and humanity.
 
ESC’s 10 Percent Give Back partners in 2009 are Ocean Conservancy and African Wildlife Foundation.  In past year’s, ESC has teamed with its partners to support endeavors such as primate climbing towers, sea turtle tracking and waterway clean-ups  Additionally, each year the company also seeks ways to give back to the farming communities that harvest their all-natural and organic cacao.
 
African Wildlife Foundation has been working with the people of Africa since its founding in1961, to ensure that the continent’s wildlife and wild lands will endure forever. Endangered Species Chocolate currently supports establishing research camps in the Samburu Heartland and Congo Heartland. Securing basic supplies and equipment for each species project to include computers, radios, and other telecommunications equipment, GPS units, binoculars and field tents; collars and monitoring equipment for tracking species.

Ocean Conservancy, located in Washington, DC, promotes healthy and diverse ocean ecosystems and opposes practices that threaten ocean life and human life. Through research, education, and science-based advocacy, Ocean Conservancy informs, inspires, and empowers people to speak and act on behalf of the oceans. The Endangered Species Chocolate grant is used to fund two projects, The International Coastal Cleanup and the Florida Wildlife Program.

Nonprofits are also encouraged to apply for in-kind chocolate donations to help support their cause. Groups like Keep Indianapolis Beautiful and The Nature Conservancy use donations from Endangered Species Chocolate as volunteer snacks, donor gifts and event favors.
