Endangered Species Chocolate celebrates one year in Indianapolis
Mission-driven chocolate company enjoying much success since move from Oregon

INDIANAPOLIS – Endangered Species Chocolate (ESC), the number one selling brand (SPINS
data, June 2006, number of units and dollar amount) of all-natural chocolate, is officially
celebrating the one-year anniversary of its move from Talent, Ore., to Indianapolis. Since
moving to its 43,000-square-foot, LEED® registered “green” production facility on Indianapolis’
northwest side, ESC has seen increased sales and a growing roster of employees.

With more than 200 percent growth in conventional grocery store distribution, 100 percent-plus
growth in the natural organic category and over 100 percent growth in e-commerce sales, ESC
has firmly secured its number one position over the past year. Further, ESC’s staff has grown
fourfold, from 12 employees in July 2005 to 48 currently.

Over the past year, the company has experienced a bounty of excitement. ESC launched a
variety of new products, including Halloween, Holiday, Love and Hoppy TreatsTM, as well as
Eco-Rounds, which are caramelized cocoa nibs mixed in a new 60 percent cocoa content blend.

Perhaps the most notable ESC news came in February 2006, when four members of the
company’s team traveled to Nigeria where they visited the cacao farms that provide the all-
natural cocoa beans for ESC’s gourmet chocolate. The team was able to verify first-hand that
their cacao is, in fact, ethically traded – a vital component of the company’s mission. ESC
donated $52,000 to purchase and install UNICEF water pumps and filters, as well as needed
school books and supplies, in two cacao farming villages.

As part of ESC’s commitment to donating 10 percent of its net profits to help support species,
habitat and humanity, the company selected two organizations to work with in 2006 – National
Wildlife Federation and Chimp Haven.

Looking ahead beyond its first year in the Circle City, ESC is already set to launch three new
products in the next month.

They also donate 10 percent of net profits to help support species, habitat and humanity. The number one best selling brand of natural chocolate in the natural food category, ESC offers nearly 30 products.
